Botox vs. Dysport: Which Is Better and Why?

Botox’s competitor, Dysport, has recently become a very popular alternative with thepromise that its effects may last longer than typical Botox treatments, and its manufacturers claim the new treatment may provide faster results. Also, some patients see Dysport as a cheaper alternative since it requires fewer follow-up trips to the doctor. Studies have shown, however, that while there are some definite differences between the two, the decision is one that should be based on your clinician’s advice and your own history with Botox and Dysport treatments.

Different Names, Similar Ingredients

Both Dysport and Botox derive from the same substance: botulinum toxin type A. The difference is largely found in the size of the protein structure in Dysport; it is also more diluted than Botox. This results in potentially different outcomes after treatment.

Different Results

Clinical studies have shown that the nature of Dysport often creates longer-lasting results. Although there have been findings that don’t support these outcomes, and in some cases contradict this, it’s worth considering Dysport if you find that you’re not satisfied with the lasting effects of Botox treatments. Some patients and studies have reported that the results from a Dysport injection are much faster than those of Botox.

Once injected, Dysport also spreads differently than Botox. This can be seen as both positive and negative; it largely depends on the skills of the person injecting it. Dysport tends to spread easier, as well, and it can treat a given area with fewer injections—a major plus for patients who are uncomfortable with needles or who bruise easily. The downside, though, is that there is potentially a greater chance of the substance spreading to areas outside of the target area.

Perhaps the most attractive aspect of Dysport is the lower cost due to fewer visits. Combined with studies that show faster results, it seems as though Dysport offers quicker and longer-lasting benefits at a cheaper cost. Research into its benefits continues, and different patients may notice slightly different results. But if you feel that you haven’t been getting everything you want out of Botox, or that you’re returning back too often for more injections, Dysport might be the better alternative.

Choosing Between Dysport and Botox in Christchurch

Aside from a difference in price, many of the dissimilarities between Botox and Dysport are still being determined. What’s clear is that Dysport offers some attractive benefits:It lasts longer, produces results faster and has the potential for requiring fewer injections. However, clinical studies haven’t necessarily proven whether or not these differences will be the same for every patient. To determine if Dysport is the ideal treatment for you, consider any prior experiences with Botox, and consult your doctor.
