IPL Photorejuvenation with Lumenis One at our Christchurch Clinic

At our Face Value Christchurch clinic we operate the IPL Lumenis One, a new generation more powerful physician-level IPL (Intense Pulsed Light Technology) for skin rejuvenation known in the beauty industry as photorejuvenation .

Make skin redness, tiny veins, brown spots and sun damage a thing of the past with an IPL skin rejuvenation treatment

The Lumenis One IPL operates at a range of light wavelengths, unlike standard lasers which use only one or two wavelengths. We can enter into the IPL computer your skin colour, skin type, and the specific skin problems you wish treated, to calculate specific IPL settings for your skin. During the IPL skin rejuvenation treatment multiple wavelengths of light enter the skin concentrating their energy at different levels. A range of filters are used which enable the Lumenis One IPL to target different components such as melanin, red veins and collagen. This allows us to treat a variety of conditions such as brown pigmentation, sun damaged skin and age spots, and to stimulate collagen to help plump up the skin. IPL is also very effective for permanent hair reduction.

Does the IPL skin rejuvenation treatment hurt?

When the IPL pulse of light is delivered, patients will experience a mild momentary pain or stinging sensation, often likened to a flick from a rubber band. An ultrasound cooling gel is applied to cool the skin prior to IPL vascular or IPL pigmentation treatments.

Anesthesia or pain medication is typically not required for IPL skin rejuvenation however patients are offered a numbing cream to increase comfort. Recovery from IPL is rapid and patients may often be able return to normal activity immediately after IPL treatment.

What conditions can be treated with intense pulsed light?

  • Age spots and other blemishes such as freckles
  • Broken blood vessels and redness of the skin
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Coarse sweat glands and reddened hair follicles
  • General sun damage to face, chest, neck and hands
  • Rosacea
  • Certain birthmarks and disorders of pigmentation

When will I see results?

Within one to four weeks of having your IPL intense pulsed light treatment the darkened spots will flake off and fade producing a more rejuvenated look. Skin redness associated with fine facial blood vessels will decrease and the mottled brownish appearance of the skin’s complexion will improve. Very uncommonly bruising or an area of blistering can appear after IPL treatment. This quickly settles over the next seven to ten days.

How many IPL treatments should I have?

Three to six IPL treatments are usually required to see results, with IPL treatment time dependent on the area of the body being treated. Typically on average four IPL treatments are performed at monthly intervals for optimal results. Most skin rejuvenation treatments take less than an hour and additional treatments may be recommended especially for excessively sun-damaged skin and for IPL hair removal.

Benefits of IPL Photorejuvenation

Unlike laser ablative or resurfacing therapies IPL skin rejuvenation addresses the problem from the inside leaving the outer skin undamaged. Because skin is left undamaged the top layer doesn't need to reform which allows the client to immediately apply makeup and go about your everyday activities. The Lumenis One IPL allows treatment of vascular redness, brown spots, sun damage and collagen stimulation simultaneously at every treatment .

Cost of IPL treatment

IPL photorejuvenation will take five to six treatments, three to four weeks apart, at a cost of NZ$300 per treatment for a full face or neck. A special package price for pre paying of five to six IPL treatments offers a significant discount . IPL hand treatments are currently priced at $200 per treatment.
